Bio & Statement

I am an emerging artist from central Ohio. I loved to draw as a child, but I put away my sketchbook after college to pursue a career and raise a family. After a complete hiatus from art of over thirty years, I began taking art classes online and at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. The old passion returned. In 2022, I  was juried into my first exhibition (the Ohio State Fair Amateur Fine Art Exhibition) and won an Ohio Arts Council Award. Since then, I have exhibited frequently in central Ohio.  I am currently represented by Hayley Gallery in New Albany.

My work often explores the emotional resonance of the human face and form, using bold, unrealistic color, texture, and gestural brushstrokes to bring internal stories to life. I’m especially drawn to people—their expressions, their energy, their mystery. Though I may never meet the individuals I paint, I develop a deep sense of connection to them. As they emerge on the canvas, I speak to them, and they seem to speak back, revealing who they are.

While human figures remain a central passion, my curiosity extends beyond portraiture. I’m equally inspired by abstract forms, landscapes, and visual storytelling in many forms. As a relatively new artist, I resist limiting myself to one subject, style, or medium. I continue to experiment freely, exploring materials like oil, pastel, collage, and encaustic. Each painting is an opportunity to learn, evolve, and connect—both with my subject and with the viewer.
